Epipremnum aureumの写真

サトイモ科ハブカズラ属のつる性観葉植物。光沢のある心形の葉と黄・白の斑が親しまれ、原産はフランス領ポリネシアのソシエテ諸島。世界中の熱帯・亜熱帯で栽培・野生化している。

説明

気根で樹木や壁面を登る常緑のつる性植物。幼株の葉は小さく全縁の心形だが、高く登った成株では葉が大きくなり羽状に切れ込むことがある。栽培では黄色や白の斑が入る品種が広く流通する。開花はまれで、原産地以外ではほとんど花をつけない。サトイモ科の例にもれず全草にシュウ酸カルシウムを含み、噛むと口腔などを刺激するため注意が必要。

生育環境

原産地のソシエテ諸島では標高約500mの湿った丘陵林に自生すると記録される。観葉植物として持ち込まれた各地では逸出し、熱帯・亜熱帯の樹上、林縁、攪乱地に定着している。
