Dracaena fragransの写真

キジカクシ科ドラセナ属の常緑低木〜高木。光沢のある厚い葉を密につけ、数年に一度強く香る白い花を咲かせる。熱帯アフリカ原産の観葉植物で、日本では「幸福の木」の名で広く流通する。

説明

単幹で直立する常緑の低木から高木になり、高さ3〜6m、稀に10m以上に達する。幹は太く、先端にロゼット状に密着した広披針形〜倒披針形の葉をつける。葉は長さ60〜100cm、幅5〜10cm、革質で光沢があり、濃緑色。室内では開花は稀であるが、原生地では数年に一度、夕方から夜にかけて強い香りを持つ白い小花を密集した円錐花序につける。和名「ニオイセンネンボク（匂い千年木）」はこの芳香に由来する。日本では「幸福の木」の名で園芸品種（特にマッサンゲアナ群）が広く流通し、ギフトやインテリアとして親しまれている。かつては Dracaena deremensis として区別されていた品種群も、現在は D. fragrans に統合されている。

生育環境

西〜中央アフリカ、東アフリカの熱帯林に自生する。標高600〜2250mの山地湿性林の林床や林縁、低地から山地のサバンナ、岩場などに生育する。季節的に乾燥する熱帯気候に適応し、耐陰性が強く、林内でもよく育つ。
