Hedera helixの写真

ウコギ科キズタ属のつる性常緑低木。ヨーロッパ〜西アジア〜北アフリカ原産で、観葉植物として世界中で栽培される。「アイビー」「ヘデラ」の名でも親しまれる。

説明

つる性の常緑低木で、茎から気根を出して壁や樹木に付着して登る。幼枝の葉は掌状に3〜5裂し革質で光沢があるが、成熟茎では卵形〜菱形の全縁葉になる（二型性）。黒い球形の果実（径6〜9mm）をつけるが、全草にヘデリンなどの有毒配糖体を含み、特に果実の誤食に注意が必要。強健で陰樹・耐寒性・耐暑性に優れ、グランドカバー、ハンギングバスケット、壁面緑化に広く用いられる。

生育環境

湿潤な森林の林床、岩肌、壁面、樹幹を這い登る。原産地では低地〜山地の広い範囲に自生し、日陰から半日陰を好む。
